Butterburr
Butterburr is a perennial plant with spears of pale pink flowers and large rhubarb-like leaves that appear after the flowers. Often used by children as umbrellas. Before refrigeration was available the large leaves were used to wrap around butter which was then placed in a cool stream. In the Middle Ages it was used for the treatment of plague and fever. In the 17th century it was used to treat coughs, asthma and skin wounds. Many alternative names: Bladderdock, Flapperdock, Butterdock.
